8 Signs It’s Time To Leave Your Job

Just last year, my life looked pretty good on paper. I had a six-figure job at a billion-dollar company and, as a lifelong people-pleaser and overachiever, I had done everything “right." I had gone to a good college, gotten my MBA, and climbed the corporate ladder to land a cushy management position. But what was underneath all that was an entirely different story. I desperately needed to make a change.

These are the warning signs that it might be time to leave your job. Does this sound like you?

1. You can’t live without caffeine.

Coffee is non-negotiable to keep you awake throughout the day. When you aren’t able to get your daily dose of caffeine, the thinking about it consumes you.

2. You're obsessed with email.

The last thing you do before bed and the first thing you do when you open your eyes is check your email.

3. Happy hour is mandatory.

As soon as you send your last email of the day, you find yourself heading straight to your local watering hole for a cocktail or three.

4. You're noticing mysterious pains in your body.

You are starting to notice strange aches and pains throughout your body at random times in the day.

5. You've become an emotional eater.

It’s not uncommon for you to get home and wolf down an entire bag of chips or double serving of pasta at the end of a long day.

6. You bring your phone into yoga class.

When you finally make it to a class, you set up your mat in the back and leave your phone nearby just in case you miss an important message. You rarely ever stay for final savasana.

7. You find yourself frequently fighting with your partner.

Your evening is usually capped off with a good old fashioned fight with your husband or partner about dishes or bills or whatever the chosen topic of the evening happens to be.

8. Sunday nights have turned into a time of panic and dread.

As soon as the sun sets on Sunday evening, the panicked feeling starts to set in as you realize you have to go back to work the next day and will have five days of it before the weekend comes again.

These little signs are your body’s intuitive way of letting your know that things just aren’t working in the current state and cannot be managed at that level for much longer. And, while you could easily ignore them or chalk them up to simply not managing stress well, try listening to what what your body has to say. It may surprise you just how much you can learn!
